What is AlertHelp?
AlertHelp helps you to interpret the system alert messages, so you
don't need to learn every alert number and its meaning by heart or
check every alert from the 1000-page brick, the Amiga ROM Kernel
Reference Manual.
How does it work?
AlertHelp patches the exec/Alert()-function.
How do I use it?
Place it in your boot-disk's c: drawer, and 'run' it from your
startup-sequence (run <NIL: >NIL: c:AlertHelp).
When a recovery alert occurs, AlertHelp opens a window to notify
you about the alert. When you have finished reading select the
'Thank you'-gadget to go on.
When a deadend alert occurs, the window contains the following
gadgets: Guru (meet the great Guru), Reboot (reboot the machine
without meeting the Guru), Suspend (try to suspend the faulty
program).
If you get the System Request, which states that an alert has
occurred, select the Reboot-option to see AlertHelp.
If you get the System Request after selecting Suspend from AlertHelp,
select Suspend to suspend the faulty program.
To get rid of AlertHelp, run it again and select the 'Remove'-gadget.
Notes
- AlertHelp doesn't catch every alert, just most of those generated
by calling exec/Alert().
- AlertHelp needs V2.0 (V36)
History
V0.55 (Thursday, 23-Sep-1993)
Should recognize all the specific alerts from the V2.04 exec/alerts
file. General alerts are a bit harder yet.
